Modal verbs are a type of "helping" verb. (Helping verbs are also called "auxiliary" verbs.) Before we study modal verbs, let's review helping verbs.

Review - Helping Verbs

Read the following paragraph. Look for helping verbs. Click on the HELPING verbs.

Our society has a problem. That problem is "continous partial attention." What does that mean? We don't do one thing at a time any more. Instead, people talk on the phone while they are driving. Students listen to music while they are studying. I was watching T.V. while I made this webpage.

Review - Main Verbs

Now read the same paragraph again. This time, click on the MAIN verbs.
